Households across the water are to be offered the chance to buy electricity at just 5 pence a unit.
Admittedly the rock bottom price from Green Energy is only available between the hours of 11pm and 6 am.
For most of the time, customers will pay 12 pence which is still a pretty good rate.
However on weekdays between 4 pm and 7 pm, the charge is an eye watering 25 pence a unit.
It won’t work for everyone especially families with young children who tend to use a lot of electricity around teatime. But couples who work late and are prepared to use dishwashers, washing machines and tumble dryers at night, could save a lot on their power bills.
I can guarantee such a tariff won’t be available here anytime soon. That’s because it requires a smart meter. They’re being put into homes across the water but not inn Northern Ireland.
So savings that you could make are being denied to you because Stormont has put the introduction of smart meters on the long finger
